Frequently
Asked Questins
1.
Which picture do you recommend?
Begin with a small one: viz. a 1AP picture.
If you have a feeling you enjoy decoupage and the result is satisfactory,
you can try a larger one.
2.
Do you need a tool for shaping the pieces?
Special tools exist for shaping. I use a round pen or pencil
with a smooth surface to shape the pieces. I do not like the dents
the special tool makes in the cutout pieces.
Remember: shaping them is very important, but do not overdo it.

3.
It is impossible to clean the brush I varnish with. What do you
suggest?
Wipe most of the varnish off with a tissue. Then clean it thoroughly
with warm water and soap. Leave some detergent on the brush. Next
time you use it, clean it thoroughly again.
4.
Do I need 9 or more pictures to have a satisfactory result?
No. For the larger pictures 6 pieces are enough. When you use
my manuals you’ll see that I cut out every available bit that
is necessary. Look at the specimen of the “Brouwersgracht
– Amsterdam”.
5.
How do I apply silicon-kit on larger areas?
Apply the kit in ‘blobs’ or ‘dots’ in
a zigzag way about 2 cm apart (So; not 1 dot on each corner of a
20 x 30cm area ! )
6.
How close is the gap between each layer?
That depends on your judgement. Look and think! The result must
look natural.
The pieces should not be pressed flat. A gap should be left between
each layer of 2mm to 4, 6 or even 8mm when necessary.
Ensure that each piece as it is applied is precisely superimposed
over the lower print.
7.
When I press upon the pieces, the kit still shows..
Use the correct amount of kit; not too near the edge. Use the
silicon straight from the tube on large areas. Use a
cocktail-stick for smaller pieces: take a piece of carton to squeeze some kit on, then take a small ‘blob’, put it on whichever
small piece that needs fixing.
